GREAT 1940’s themed History of Mother’s Day event at Ketcham Inn Foundation @ketcham.inn in Center Moriches NY yesterday.
Delicious 1940’s desserts were prepared by Carol Valone, including authentic ration cakes and jello jewel cake (made in a jello mold).
Guests enjoyed educational talks on the history of Ketcham Inn and the origin of Mother’s Day.
Looking like a woman who needs a husband to open a credit card, (this was the case in the 1940’s), I gave a lecture tilted: “Drafting Mother’s Day: How WWI Politicized Mother’s Day.” Thank you to Bert Seides for including me in this fun event!

Victory Rolls: a winning 1940’s hairstyle.
